MANY OF THEM DIED UNDOCUMENTED

Candle, Light, All Souls ' Day, Memory, The Tomb Of

When you enter any standard library, you will interact with books written many years ago. Many of us would not have known these authors if they had not written their ideas. They speak to us as if they were still physically alive. Someone says, “People would not remember you for what you know, but for what you have done.” Benjamin Franklin comments, “If you would not be forgotten, as soon as you are dead & rotten, either write things worth reading, or do things worth the writing.”

Think of how many elders have died in your community with their wealth of knowledge undocumented. Maybe the young leaders are repeating their errors because of lack of access to their knowledge.

We still have aged people in our communities. Sometimes we see and interact with them. They make us learn and laugh. They also use their wisdom in settling disputes. However, we would lose such great moments of interaction if they die with their values undocumented. The worse is that our children and generations after them may never have access to them.

I probably wouldn’t have known the testimony of my father’s conversion if not because he wrote it down. I discovered it at home after he died.

ARE YOU MICROWAVING OR COOKING CONTENTS?

typewriter-2653187__480

What is your best writing approach? Do you prefer reproducing or creating fresh contents?  Reproducing contents has its place in writing. However, I encourage you to focus more on being a ‘cooker’ rather than a ‘microwave.’

The world is large and there are many things yet to be discovered. “It is the glory of God to conceal a matter; to search out a matter is the glory of kings” (Proverbs 25:2 NIV). It means that God wants the kings to search.

The ocean is big enough for scientists to discover unknown species. Ideas emerge every day. It is good that you search for them. It is either you search for fresh contents or fresh methods of presenting old ones.

How fresh is your content?

IDEAS DON’T GO FAR WITHOUT THE RIGHT SYSTEMS

You may be wondering why Africa is still very slow in development.

There are great thinkers and visionaries in Africa. Ideas are often available. However, these ideas hardly go far because we often lack the right systems to convey them to the top-class efficiency level.

Our leaders need to see and understand that systems are like fuel in vehicles. You may have a brand new car (that is using fuel), but ineffective when there is no fuel in it.

It is time we produce working systems for our local ideas. Only then we can successful give life, energy and efficiency to our ideas.

ABOUT TEN YEARS OF TRAINING WRITERS: Some Things You Need To Know

We started our first Writers Seminar on the 17-18 September, 2010, in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria. It was a wonderful experience. Since then I have trained hundreds of writers and potential writers in Nigeria and abroad. Glory to God.

The journey so far was challenging and fruitful. I am glad because a few of those we have trained are today book writers, while some are in the process. The destination ahead is bright and I hope that the writers we are training will continue to grow and one-day find their parts in sharing local contents globally.

As a writer and trainer, I am strongly convinced that African- writers are developing and majority will one-day write as professionals. They will produce books of international standard. It will not only be one event, but a sustainable excellent writing culture from one generation to another.

In the process of training, I realized that a practical book that will simply guide writers in effective writing is needed. Such a book must challenge them to discover their writing potential; motivate them to write; offer core writing tips and be interactive in teaching/learning methods. I have worked on such a book for a few years and will soon be ready for release, by God’s grace.

Many of my answers to the challenges confronting writers, especially in Africa, are captured in the book.

Some of the key areas of concern I have noticed in training are:

1. African writers know how to write, but most of them do not know how to write books professionally.

2. Two important things are highly needed before great books can flow out of Africa: high capacity in identifying groundbreaking contents, and the best way to organize them.

2. You can have a PhD in your field and still may not know how to write a good book. The secrets of writing a good book are mostly in the publishing industry not in our formal schools.

3. The patience to work on a writing project until excellence is achieved is minimal. We need to upgrade our level of patience.

4. Most of the writers do not have proper understanding of their world, the publishing world and the world of their readers. They often fail in communication because of that.

You have alot to learn no matter your level if you have never attended a professional book writing training programme. There are a lot of secrets you need to know and only those who know the secrets can tell you.

Our major BOOK WRITING SEMINAR in Abuja is from 8-10, August, 2019. Specially designed for leaders (Pastors, Speakers, Business/Entrepreneurs, Politicians, Scholars, Civil servants etc). We are training leaders in book writing so that they can lead well and write well. It is sad if a leader leads well, but undocumented. We have lost great values as a result of not writing our leadership contents. EVERY BOOK IS A LEADERSHIP PRODUCT.

God willing, details of the seminar will soon be available on this platform and others. Prepare to attend.

There is hope for Africa.

LOCAL INNOVATION IS NECESSARY

dsc_12801856912786653383664.jpg

Forests mainly expand through seed- bearing trees. The process of a seed, developing from its first form to another is fantastic. Innovation is similar. Having fresh territories leads to fresh experiences. That is what Africa needs. We need to encourage innovation if we want to have a sustainable development. Our local entrepreneurs and visionaries must be allowed to dream productively and have the necessary resources to experiment their local ideas. Africa will be able to commercially export ‘fruits’ and ‘seeds’ of things that can effectively contribute globally.

WHY THIS MOTHER GOT MY ATTENTION

Many people want to learn writing. One of their challenges is that they are too busy to attend training workshops or seminars. However, this mother got my attention because she was different. She attended one of our writers training workshops in Abuja, Nigeria, and was able to combine motherhood and learning. This means others too can emulate her. We can learn how to write no matter how busy we are.

Africa needs potential writers who have the capacity to learn and write no matter the challenges they face.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE HOLY BIBLE TO YOU

Yes, I am a Christian. However, this article is not only about my faith. It is mainly about a book that I have found very useful and I would love to introduce it to you, whether you are a Christian or not.

Many people would naturally disagree with me because of their various values or backgrounds. That is the way it should be when diverse perspectives are involved.

The Holy Bible is not only a spiritual book, it is God’s manual for us to know how to live and flourish. That means you can find it useful spiritually, economically, financially, politically, academically, and many other aspects.

In 2015, I was invited (as a speaker) to Littworld, a World Conference of Christian Publishing, in Singapore, organized by Media Associates International. I got a ground breaking idea from the Holy Bible during my pre- conference research. That idea is now central in all my activities. Infact, my approach on how to reach the world has completely changed and enhanced.

Moreover, yesterday, 15-June- 2019 marked another discovery moment from the Holy Bible. I sat in my car and brainstormed on fresh ideas on how to do publishing. I had two books with me: The Holy Bible and a business book written by a billionaire. It was the Holy Bible that provided the key fresh ideas I need. That is not to say other books are useless. They are not. They have their roles in the master plan. They have the authors’ experiences and insights about many biblical principles whether they know it or not.

Loren Cunningham (with Janice Rogers) have summarised in a wonderful way (on the back cover page) of their book, titled, THE BOOK THAT TRANSFORMS NATIONS. “No country is too hard, too poor, too filled with crime, too divided by war, or too spiritually dark to be changed. God has given us basic principles that are keys to every problem we face in the twenty-first century. The answers lie between the covers of one book- the Bible.”

I really don’t want to be selfish. I don’t want to find or have a very useful book and hide it. That is why I highly recommend the Holy Bible to you. Sentiment aside if possible. Try it for yourself and see.

EVERY BOOK IS A LEADERSHIP PRODUCT

Leadership is direction. Anybody who is offering direction to himself and others is a leader. Every good leader has a message and that message is his or her leadership content. A book from such a leader should reflect the content of his or her leadership experiences. A pastor can write better books on pastoral ministry. An engineer can also write better on engineering.

Carefully investigate what you know. It is important in your journey of becoming a good writer.
